Hi friends,
For those of you who’ve been here since the beginning, you’ll remember that All In The Cards was born just a few weeks before George Floyd’s murder. At that time, it felt wrong to send tarotscopes focused around our worldly woes, when the conversation around police brutality and systemic racism in the United States was reaching a deafening crescendo. Instead, I sent resources for mutual aids, bail funds, community support for small businesses, and words from tarot on how to move forward.
I am from the Twin Cities and have spent the better part of the last decade grappling with the uneasy feeling of having grown up in a notoriously “nice” state with an ugly history of segregation, oppression, and outright hate. After Mr. Floyd’s murder, many Americans have spent the better part of the last year focusing on the way we participate in the wheel of systemic racism on a daily basis. And today, March 8th, Derek Chauvin, Mr. Floyd’s murderer and disgraced MPD officer, was set to go to trial.
As things often go in America’s bureaucracy, there’s been a delay. Nevertheless, the world’s eyes are on my hometown and on a racist killer cop who lived not ten minutes from my childhood home. Again today, it feels wrong to send tarotscopes. Of course, it is important to provide clarity on our paths in this extremely trying time. But from my perspective, it is also important to think of us not as individuals but as a collective, holding our government accountable for wrongdoings against Black people in this country. From my perspective, those who fight for Mr. Floyd are a part of one muscle, and this muscle helps the hand form a fist.
So today, in lieu of your tarotscopes, we return to resources and meditations. Today, I offer a meditation on “Justice.” What does justice look like in the tarot, and how does it align with the fight for racial justice in America? And how does it align with our unwavering love of Mr. Floyd and dedication to his name?
If you are seeking coverage of the trial, please turn to the local journalists' reporting at the Minneapolis Star Tribune or on-air at MPR. All trial coverage will be free to the public on the Star Tribune, but please consider supporting local news with your dollars. As always, if you are looking for organizations to donate to, please turn to this list compiled by Black Visions Collective.
I am a white woman, and my perspective is that of a white woman with a lot of work ahead of her. I’m blessed that my readership has grown ten times that of last June. I’m so thankful to have you with me on this journey. But I encourage you to consider diversifying your astrology resources and supporting Black practitioners. Here’s a list of some to follow on Instagram, c/o @solelunastro.
In solidarity.

On Justice
Art: Deadly Tarot
Justice says, in the immortal words of Justin Bobby, “truth and time tells all.” Truth will always prevail, and it’s best to meet it when it presents itself rather than delay the inevitable. Of course, what is real, moral, and ethical looks differently to different people. But it is our responsibility, under Justice’s watchful eye, to determine what that morality looks like for all people, not just ourselves. For those who are closest to us and for those we have never met (and may never meet).
Justice calls for us to get intimate with belief. Our own beliefs and the beliefs of those with whom we disagree. Where are the commonalities? Search for level playing fields to stand on while you uplift the greater good. Justice walks hand in hand with Temperance, which is to say patience. Change does not happen overnight. Justice accumulates over many days, months, and years of consistent action and outspoken behavior. Justice is methodical in its approach.
Justice is not afraid to get uncomfortable. Growth is rarely comfortable. Step beyond the veil of what you know and get intimate with what you know is true but is difficult for you to accept. Marinate in that truth. Then spread it like wild seeds thrown to the wind.
